Life in a Virtual World – Second Life

A Second Life  Can be a Good Thing

You may have heard me mention that I participate in a virtual world and have for over seven years now. My grid of choice is Second Life.  I was tagged today in a Facebook memory. So, certainly a number of fond memories came rushing back.

For five of my seven SL years I was the curator of an amazing art gallery that was part of a palatial build by my SL brother, Kaya Angel. It was a wonderful time in my life and I’m sure I will never forget it or my brother.

I curated art from artists all over the world for placement in nine galleries and a grand exhibition hall. I recast the galleries and hall every month. Each exhibition started with me stripping the galleries to their bare white walls and building an atmosphere that was uniquely fitted to the artists’ work.  Back when I was completely nuts about this, I’d turn over all of the galleries in one 36+ hour day.  In my tenure, I worked with nearly 400 international artists and created nearly 600 unique gallery designs and won three Avi Choice Awards for my work.

I know that many have no idea that such worlds exist so I’m including a YouTube video that includes my life there. By all means watch the whole video if you have the time, but if not and you are just curious about what Kylie was up to “in world” then check out position 8:06 – 10:22 as that is the section that Kaya devoted to his middle sister and her life at Angel Manor.  Thank you for this beautiful memory, Kaya.

Angel Manor is probably one of the most impressive builds in SL and now occupies nine sims. If you get a chance to go in world, be sure to check out Angel Manor and The Rose Theatre.

PS:  I am still a part of Second Life, but live a more private life decorating my home and SL gardening.

Pattern Mash-ups 101 – Resale Wardrobe Hints

We all like to play in the safe sandbox, where we won’t make any faux pas. But it’s fun to play in a dodgier area when it comes to fashion.

I often see ladies pick out a brilliant pattern and then express bewilderment as to what to match it with. Surely such a bold pattern must surely cry out for a solid partner. But patterns can play well together when you know a few rules.

Being able to work with patterns effectively will greatly improve your resale shopping experience.  reFresh Boutique recently held a class on pattern matching. It turned out to be so much fun, that I’m sure we will repeat it later in the summer.  I put together a dozen different outfits, all of which bravely mashed up patterns that might have boggled the mind until they were seen working together. Then the ladies were encouraged to walk about the shop and put together their own mash-ups.

I had put together a hand-out that was much to onerous to print and have attached it here for you.

How to Return those Amazon Gifts

amazon gifts

Amazon Gifts Return

We will be creeping out of bed far to early on what for many is a day off — the day after Christmas, or Boxing Day. Not that there is any relationship between Boxing Day and running to the mall and returning the unwanteds . . . I mean those lovely presents that missed the mark by a tad. I digress — as usual. But if you just have to know more about Boxing Day, you can check here.

Ahh yes. Back to those presents. Hopping into the car, grabbing a bite at the neighborhood breakfast haven and toddling off to the mall is easy, if not a bit frenetic. But what to do with those lovelies, those Amazon gifts  that arrived on your doorstep via the Amazon sleigh? Here’s the scoop on how to return them straight from the reindeer’s mouth, courtesy of Amazon Help.

  1. Go to the Online Returns Center.Select Return a gift and sign-in with your Amazon account.
  2. Enter the gift’s order number and selectSearch.Your 17-digit order number (or “Order ID”) is found on the left side of your packing slip. If you don’t have the packing slip, you can contact us. We’ll ask for information to help us locate the order, such as the sender’s name, their e-mail address, their phone number, and information about the item you wish to return.
  3. Select the items you want to return from the order.
Enter the quantity of items you want to return (if applicable), and a return reason from the drop-down menu. For items sold by a third-party seller, you’ll see “Submit return request.” Some Amazon sellers review return requests before authorizing them.
  4. Select how you want to send your item back.
Select your return shipping options and how you’ll obtain your return label. Each return label is assigned to a specific return.Note: If you choose to return via Amazon Locker, you’ll be prompted to select a Locker location at this time. For more information about returning an item to an Amazon Locker, go to Return a Package at an Amazon Locker.
  5. Put the return authorization inside your package and attach the label to the outside of it.
If your gift return is authorized, Amazon or the Seller will process your refund as an Amazon.com Gift Card after your return is received. The Gift Card will be added to the account you used to generate your return from the Online Returns Center. Once the refund is processed, we’ll send you a confirmation e-mail. If you’re the gift giver, your refund will be processed to the original payment method. All refunds are subject to our refund policies outlined in About Refunds.

Home for the Holidays? Now What?

home for the holidays

Home for the Holidays

We’ve shopped and hustled and bustled until our bustle is dragging. And now the family is arriving. What to do? We love our families and we love to have them. Perry Como wrote  home all about it. “Oh there’s no place like home for the holidays. . . ” You’re singing now, right? Here are a few ideas for keeping everyone busy and happy.

Vulture shares a list of board games you may want to check out.  New Bedford, which appears to be the whaling community version of Settlers of Catan, caught my eye.  You gather to build a town, but the real treat is that you are going to go whaling!

CBS News offers a list of binge-worthy television to catch up on, and they are not just CBS offerings. Check it out. I am the consummate binge watcher. I’d much rather watch a whole season at once than to have it strung out over weeks and weeks. I have the attention span of a flea though.

Vogue gives excellent ideas on how to host those holiday parties while maintaining your sanity.

Last, and most certainly not least, share this great place we call home with them. For me, that is the Seattle area. Look for posts on things to do in your area. You may find some places that you’ve not seen as well.

This link is for the folks in my neck of the woods — Seattle. The Visit Seattle website lists their top 25 attractions.

Actually, home for the holidays is really quite a wonderful thing.
