The Power of Letting Go – The Philosophy of Marie Kondo

As if out of the blue, people have been dropping in in droves. They all have one thing in common — they were cleaning up and letting go. “So what’s new about that? you might ask. A name kept being dropped and I always hate being the clueless one — although that doesn’t seem to alleviate the state much.

Marie Kondo.

Most said it so fast that it was hard for me to catch and even a couple said Marie Claire.

Marie Kondo. That is the name.

Marie has written a book that seems to wield a great deal of power for positive change in people”s lives. The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing. (Guess what you’re getting for Christmas, hubby dear.)

She asks several questions, but the one that seems to be the most sentient is, do your things bring you joy. If so, keep them, if not let them go. She even asserts that one of the  reasons we hang on to things is guilt. Perhaps it pulls on an emotion from the past, or maybe you just paid too much money for it and the guilt causes you to hang on even though you have no intention of using it.

I am a minimalist to my core. I don’t hang on to anything and have very few personal belongings by today’s standards. This is a choice as I detest disorder. But I live with one who has a hard time of letting go and at times is overwhelmed by the enormity of his collective dross and hubris. So, I do understand this tendency to cling to things that actually weigh you down.

There is an incredible lightness of spirit that comes with minimalism.  I’m looking forward to reading Marie’s book. And if you are feeling in the mood to “let go”, drop on by.

Six Easy Pieces – Art by Kylie Sabra

That’s not an entirely accurate title as indeed many hours goes into each piece of art I create. This is my true passion –that place where I can completely lose myself. I sent these off to the printer yesterday and should have them back by the end of the month or sooner to grace what is finally going to be the “art gallery” wall of reFresh Boutique and Art Gallery. About time, right? It was so hard to know where to start as I have a portfolio nearing 100 pieces.

The shots below are low resolution for the web. The actual work is exceptionally high resolution and is printable in a wide array of sizes and are available as high-quality prints or canvases.

The Tiger Suit by Escada

Want to share in a little Hollywood glamour? Escada has been gracing the red carpet for years.

I’ve searched high and low and I am one of only a few who has this beautiful suit for sale as a complete set. The listings I’ve seen on the popular sites offer only the skirt or the jacket. If you were to buy them like this, there is a good chance that they won’t match in color as they have been cared for differently, and one may have been worn more than the other. I’m putting it up for sale on Ebay with a starting bid of $700.

The skirt is a European size 36, which is equivalent to a US size 4. The one flaw in the jacket is that the size tag is removed. The model is a size 6. The jacket and skirt fit her perfectly.

New with tags, this delightful suit sells for $2500+. You can buy it now for $700, and you have the advantage of seeing for yourself what excellent condition it is in. The is suit is like new.
